Have you ever considered the symbolism of an apron? So, what exactly does an apron mean to us? On the most basic level, an apron is, at times, simply part of someone’s attire to protect her clothes.

An apron could be part of a uniform required to perform a job. On the airplane, when you see the flight attendants go to their tiny closets, take out their matching, color-coordinated aprons, and put them on over their suits, you know it’s Beverage and Meal time. Or Snack time if you’re just taking a short flight from ATL to Miami.

An apron could be a simple and temporary addition to your sexy dress-up-at-home dinner. You’re reaching in the oven, putting the final touches on the gourmet dinner you prepared for your cute guy. You’re all dolled up wearing an outfit you can’t risk messing up, so you reach for your apron. We’ve always loved that Bistro apron look that Chef Giada De Laurentiis has perfected.

Aprons are a cover and a protection for your clothes, and also an indication that the wearer is making something with her hands. Creating something special.

One might wear an apron to repair something, to build something, or to patch up something. An artist wears an apron when painting, sculpting, making pottery, crafting, and so on. We have all seen Mom and Granny cooking and baking in the kitchen while wearing an apron…and cleaning up our messes. Aprons remind us of the most wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday dinners with family.

Whatever the occation, aprons signify some type of Work or Creative activity. Aprons are a badge of honor that say, “I make stuff. I make stuff better. I create things.”

Whatever you’re doing, aprons show the world that you Lead, Provide, and Create. Wearing an apron indicates that you are doing something valuable and constructive, and with care.
